Shawn is an experienced educator with a sustained history of passionate teaching, engaged leadership, and forward-thinking curriculum development. Before coming to Achieve Now, Shawn held teaching positions at Temple University, Villanova University, and Williams College, where he was recognized for his innovative teaching. As a liaison for Stanford University's renowned Center for Teaching and Learning, he provided customized teaching services and rigorous classroom observations and analyses, and conducted pedagogy workshops focused on specific teaching strategies, recommending unique situational learning approaches. He is thrilled to be leading an organization dedicated to making a lasting contribution to children's lives.
Ann Drabick is a nonprofit professional dedicated to creating equality through equity in Philadelphia, based on the belief that this begins with improving the quality of, and access to, comprehensive, stimulating education programs. Her fundraising background includes an array of experiences including the development and implementation of local boards for the Philadelphia subsidiary of Repair the World; the execution of new individual giving and stewardship campaigns for HIAS Pennsylvania; and grant writing, event planning, donor prospecting, database management, and more as the Development Associate at Mighty Writers. Ann received her master’s in Nonprofit Leadership from the University of Pennsylvania in 2015. She is excited to join the Achieve Now team as the Development Coordinator and support the organization’s mission to improve literacy rates among Philadelphia youth.
Director of Curriculum and Instruction
Amber has spent her career as an educator striving to create high-quality curriculum accessible to all students. In the past seven years, she has created an original, hands-on and literacy-based science curriculum; launched a Sixth Grade Science Collaboration Team to help teachers from other schools create high-quality curricula; and served as a leader in the creation of curriculum correlated to the Common Core standards. Amber has driven teachers’ instructional practice, devising and facilitating numerous professional developments, and coaching and training novice teachers and faculty advisors. She has obtained Masters degrees in Curriculum and Instruction, with a concentration in Elementary Education, and in Administrative Leadership. As the Director of Curriculum and Instruction for Achieve Now, Amber hopes to create high-quality, differentiated curriculum as well as increase the instructional capacity of educators to improve the educational outcomes for students served by Achieve Now.
Andy has a longstanding passion for educational justice, and is excited to share that with Achieve Now. Andy graduated from Haverford College with a BA in Political Science and Education in 2017. Before coming to Achieve Now, Andy lived in Camden, NJ, where he taught in an afterschool program in an affordable housing unit. He also spent two summers teaching middle school reading in Denver, CO. Andy joined us in Fall 2018, and is excited to explore new parts of Philadelphia on public transit and help young readers all over the city.
Bridget is an experienced educator and teaching artist who has been working in the Philadelphia nonprofit circuit since 2012. Before joining the Achieve Now team, she created and facilitated literacy-based poetry workshops at Philadelphia Arts and Education Partnership. She also worked as a literacy coach at Chester Community Charter School, where she helped to spearhead the Back to Basics afterschool program. She is currently pursuing a Masters in Urban Education with an eye to working in educational policy.
Kareema Jean-Baptiste is a 25-year-old educator from Princeton, New Jersey. Kareema received her bachelor’s from Hampshire College in 2015, concentrating on Educational policy, and Africana Studies. While at Hampshire, Kareema became certified to teach English to speakers of other languages (TESOL). Since graduating, Kareema has taught English in LaPaz Bolivia, where she taught university students at a variety of proficiency levels. Most recently, she spent a year living and working in Galicia, Spain, where she was a culture and language ambassador for a program sponsored by the Spanish Government. While there, she helped first to fifth graders improve their English skills. Kareema also serves as the program coordinator for the TESOL Certification course at her alma mater, where she helps prepare adults to enter the English teaching field.
