Daris McInnis

Assistant Professor of Literacy, West Chester University

As a professor of literacy, Daris sees literacy acquisition and development as a tool for justice and equity, in alignment with Achieve Now's mission. He teaches courses in reading instruction, differentiation in English Language Arts, and critical literacy, and believes in interweaving social justice, antiracism, and equity-based work in his courses. He also brings experience as a former early elementary school teacher in Washington, D.C., a summer learning curriculum specialist with the Free Library of Philadelphia, and experience as a volunteer reading specialist in Philadelphia and in New Castle County, Delaware.

As a member of the Achieve Now board, Daris draws on his teaching, research, and volunteer experience to help address persistent gaps in literacy acquisition. He leverages this expertise to support the organization in driving actionable change for Philadelphia throughout across the community.
