Our Impact
Impressive gains
We are proud to have served so many students in the short time we’ve been in Philadelphia, and thrilled by the progress they have made; each year has seen a steady climb in students’ gains. We remain committed to open inquiry about our practices, leading to refinements that effect more impactful student outcomes.
In the 2024-2025 school year, our students experienced a 60% CORE score growth—nearly three times the national benchmark of 21.2%.
Student Success Stories
Aidan
When Aidan began the year with Achieve Now, he knew only one or two letters and struggled to isolate letter sounds at the beginning and end of words. But he was motivated to get better and, with the support of his Achieve Now literacy instructor, Jordan Klein, and volunteer coach, Donna Lee, his confidence and focus grew by leaps and bounds and he began to read first-grade-level words.
Hasan
Hasan was initially a shy, reluctant student who lacked confidence as a reader. Over the course of the school year, he developed a close bond with his coach, Monique. She created a playful, safe learning environment that helped Hasan to come out of his shell and to take ownership of his learning.
Ethan
Ethan’s boundless energy was primarily directed in creative work avoidance, especially when material became challenging. By implementing Ethan’s own seven-point daily behavior scale, his Achieve Now coach, Colleen Cunningham, and Achieve Now literacy instructor, Carissa Capilongo, helped him focus and accelerate his progress as a reader.
What people are saying
*Average over the last five programming years. Decoding is the ability to recognize the sounds made by letters or groups of letters and to blend those sounds into complete words. Decoding has been said to be the cardinal feature of all skilled reading; studies show that children who are good decoders read many more words than struggling decoders, who tend to over-rely on memorization or context clues.
