We are currently hiring Part-Time (14-21 hours/week) Literacy Instructors for the 2026-2027 School Year.
Position Summary:
The Literacy Instructor position is primarily remote, with approximately 6-10 required in-person days for meetings, trainings, and events in Philadelphia. Literacy Instructors work closely with volunteer literacy coaches and first- and second-grade students to support the delivery of Achieve Now’s evidence-based reading program. This role reports to the Director of Programs and plays a key part in ensuring students receive high-quality, individualized literacy support.
Responsibilities:
Program Implementation:
Oversee tutoring session logistics, including providing technical support to volunteers and students, tracking attendance, and assigning and adjusting student lesson sequences.
Support volunteer coaches in implementing lessons effectively and with fidelity.
Deliver literacy instruction and intervention aligned with Achieve Now’s curriculum and instructional practices.
Monitor student progress through observation, assessment, and data analysis to ensure learning goals are met.
Develop and implement action plans to address student needs and strengthen instructional practices.
Build positive relationships and communicate effectively with students, families, teachers, volunteers, and staff to support successful program delivery.
Data Collection & Reporting:
Maintain accurate student, volunteer, and program records and submit required documentation in a timely manner.
Participate in team meetings to review data, identify trends, and share instructional best practices.
Contribute to program evaluation efforts through observation, feedback, and collaborative discussion.
Administrative Support:
Assist with annual program planning, setup, and closeout activities.
Support organizational projects as needed in the areas of programming, curriculum, development, and communications.
Participate in occasional in-person responsibilities throughout the year, which can include team collaboration, school visits, material preparation and delivery, trainings, and other program-related activities as needed.

Experience working with children or in education-focused, community-based, or youth-serving organizations is preferred. We welcome candidates whose experience comes from a variety of settings, including schools, after-school programs, nonprofits, community organizations, mentoring programs, camps, childcare settings, or other environments that support children and families.
Preferred qualifications include:
Experience supporting students in kindergarten through second grade.
Knowledge of early literacy development, including phonics, phonemic awareness, fluency, and decoding.
Experience providing one-on-one instruction.
Experience supporting virtual learning environments.
Experience working with, training, or supporting volunteers, mentors, tutors, or educators.
Familiarity with positive behavior support and trauma-informed practices.
Understanding of the Science of Reading and evidence-based literacy instruction.
Knowledge of adult learning principles.
A bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience is required. Candidates must be proficient with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and Zoom.
Advanced training in literacy instruction, including a master's degree in literacy or reading education, Reading Specialist certification, or related credentials, is valued but not required.

Starting Salary: $23/hour
Work Environment
Achieve Now currently maintains a primarily virtual work environment where staff work from home, as determined by the staff member's or team’s responsibilities. We support students in a virtual one-on-one model where we facilitate and support volunteers’ tutoring of first and second grade students. There are approximately 6-10 days per year that require in-person attendance at one of our sites in Philadelphia.
Time and Hours
Part-time employees typically must be available Monday through Thursday between the hours of 8:30am and 3:30pm for a total of fourteen (14) to twenty-one (21) hours per week.
